Riem Arcades: plans of construction submitted

Munich/Essen/Hamburg. The DM 650 million Riem Arcades mall took a giant step forward today. The construction plans of the project, set for completion by autumn 2003, were submitted to the municipality of Munich's department of urban planning and construction.

Entailed in the project is the construction of 119,000 square meters of usable space. "The size of the project mandated our applying for permission-which was subsequently granted-to submit four individual sets of plans to the authorities," stated Jürgen Ehrlich. He is member of the executive board of the Hamburg-based DIFA, the investor financing the mall, which is to be developed by Essen's mfi.

As Ehrlich explains, the submission of a 'four-pack' of plans will enable the authorities to process them concurrently. "This will speed up the approval process, enabling us to meet our deadline of launching the actual construction of the complex on October 30, 2001," he noted.

Comprising 146 individual plans and sketches, the documents submitted were prepared using the designs created by Munich's ASW (Allmann Sattler Wappner) and Hamburg's NPS (Nietz Prasch Sigl Tchoban Voss) firms of architects. "Fifteen large-sized boxes were needed to transport the documents to the planning department," reported Stefan Kowalczuk, who leads the team set up by mfi to develop the mall.

The team is currently preparing the construction tenders.

Also to be included in the project are 80 large-sized apartments, a multiplex cinema, a hotel (with 220 rooms), a community center, restaurants and much more.
