How to get to MS Riem ...

... from downtown Munich

.... by subway (U-Bahn)
It takes Line 2 twenty two minutes to travel from Munich's central station (Hauptbahnhof) to Messestadt West, the main stop for those going to both the city's fairgrounds and to the community adjoining it. Line 2 runs every ten minutes during most of the day; every five minutes during the morning and evening rush hours.
Munich is home to some of the world's largest trade fairs. To transport the hundreds of thousands of people attending them, the city's transit authority adds on Line 7 during these events, paring maximum times of waiting for a subway down two or three minutes. Both of these lines cross all of the city's other main subway and S-Bahn (regional rail) routes.
Best ticket to buy: Tageskarte Gesamtnetz (full-day pass), for DM 18. It allows you to travel anywhere in greater Munich for an entire day. Times of travel: from 5.30 a.m. to midnight

This process has been facilitated by Lufthansa, which has systematically made Munich into its second international hub. Today, Lufthansa and 89 other airlines provide nearly 6,000 weekly links to all of the world's major centers of business and travel destinations.

S-Bahn (regional rail) lines 8 and 1 serve the airport. Their schedules have been staggered to provide every ten minutes service to downtown Munich. Both lines stop at Munich's central station (Hauptbahnhof), where passengers going to Messestadt Riem transfer to Line 2 of the U-Bahn (follow the bright blue U's) or, should a major trade fair be taking place, Line 7. Both of these subways have a final destination posted: Messestadt Ost. You get off at the stop before that: Messestadt West.
Travel time: a good hour. Best ticket to buy: Tageskarte Gesamtnetz (full-day pass), for DM 18. It allows you to travel anywhere in greater Munich for an entire day.

Taxis stands are located in front of all the terminals. Munich's taxi drivers have set a price of DM 83 for trips to the city's fairgrounds or ICM (international congress center). Be sure to ask for it.

by rental car
The rent-a-car companies are located in a center adjoining the airport's module A.
After leaving the airport, proceed down the superhighway serving it (A92) towards Munich (München). The A92 will soon intersect with the A 9, Bavaria's main north-south superhighway, which you will take. Keep on following the signs to Munich. A few kilometers on is another intersection, this time with the city's outer belt line (A99). Take this going east, towards Salzburg. It will soon cross a further superhighway, the A94. You take that, heading once more towards Munich. Get off at the 'Feldkirchen-West' or 'München-Riem' exits, and follow the signs to 'Messegelände' from there.
Travel times: 30 to 45 minutes. Sounds complicated, but it's not. The route is well posted with signs.
