In March, 2004, the 500 million Riem Arcades mall was opened
for business. The mall's catchment area is comprised of some 655,000
people. Their annual volume of consumption comes to some 4.5 billion
Euro.
Add in a great selection of shops, restaurants, cafés and
other outlets, and it's no wonder that the mall has proven so successful.
A hotel, office buildings offering 33,000 square meters of space,
and 60 apartments also form part of the development.
The mall has plenty of parking 2,600 spaces and is
served by an autobahn. Riem Arcades also has great public transport
links. The Messestadt West station is located next door. These links
make Munich's downtown eminently reachable from Messestadt Riem,
some seven kilometers away.
The mall is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
The restaurants they include a Bavarian inn (with a beer
garden) and a sushi bar facing the Willy-Brandt and Human
Rights squares are open throughout the evening. These extra-long
hours make the bistros favorite places to sojourn in Messestadt
Riem.

NEC, Wipro, Nemetschek, IBM, Lemo, Accor Hotellerie, ClassiCon,
Tria Software, SynergyOnline, Sony Ericsson, Foag & Lemkau, Gamma
Finish, Triquint Semiconductor, and other renowned companies have
located their headquarters, E-campuses, production, distribution
and other facilities in Messestadt Riem's technology and business
parks. Further arrivals are expected over the next months.
This influx of companies is due to a variety of factors. In Messestadt
Riem, in addition to a large stock of attractively priced and outfitted
real estate to purchase or rent, are two of the world's major venues
for trade fairs and congresses, one of southern Germany's leading
malls, a large selection of newly-built apartment buildings, a large-sized
park and a lake (the latter two items part of Germany's National
Garden Festival). Adjoining the community is the Moosfeld business
park.
Serving Messestadt Riem is Munich's subway and autobahn grids. These
provide short transport times to Munich Airport (the fastest-growing
of Europe's top ten) and other destinations in the region and in
Europe.
