(April 15, 2002) Germany will host soccer's
world championship in 2006. The committee organizing the championship
has selected Munich to be the site for the games' media center.
Some 20,000 journalists
and more than 250 TV and 400 radio networks will report from the
center, to be located within Munich's trade fairgrounds. They in
turn form the heart of the city's MS Riem district.
To be opened in November,
2005, the Euro 89 million center will occupy two of the fairgrounds'
halls. The center will have 30,000 square meters of floor space,
and will feature 600 broadband links and 1,200 telephone lines-making
it the largest of its kind in the world.
The media covering the World Cup's opening
game won't have far to go. The game will be held in Munich, one
of twelve cities selected by the committee to be venues for the
World Cup's matches.
