Football's 2006 World Cup:
plenty of games in Munich

(December 12, 2003) Munich will be the venue for the game opening football's 2006 World Cup. Five other games in the tournament – the most widely followed sporting event in the world – will be held in the city. Among these games: one of the two semi-finals.These were the fruits of the decisions reached on December 3, 2003 in Frankfurt by the committee organizing the tournament for FIFA, world football's governing body.

As Christian Ude, Munich's mayor, notes: "It is entirely appropriate that the games and tournament's International Media Center be sited in Munich. Our city has long been on the marquee names in world soccer." Ude adds: "The six games – the most to be held at any city in Germany – represent a great opportunity to show the world how attractive our city is – and to show off our new stadium, which will be completed in 2005."
