(August 1, 2005) Three thousand athletes participated in the first
Munich Triathlon, which was held yesterday on the site of BUGA,
Germany's National Garden Festival. The site forms part of Munich's
Messestadt Riem district. Winner of the men's Olympic competition
was the Griesheim-based Lothar Leder, who took one hour and fifty
minutes to cover 1500 meters of swimming, 20 kilometers of cycling
and 10 kilometers of running. The women's event was won by Austria's
Irina Kirchler. Also held was the for-everyone competition (500
meters of swimming, 20 kilometers of cycling and 5 kilometers of
running). The competition was won by Thomas Philippen and Carolin
Zoubek.
