Systems 2003

Turnaround year for world's second largest ICT trade fair

(October 23, 2003) Some 74,000 visitors attended Systems 2003, which was held from October 20 - 24 at Munich's Trade Fair Center. Putting an end to a three year losing streak, this figure was up over 2002's total.

The rise in visitors attending was just one of several bits of good news issuing from the trade fair, which is the second largest field of ICT (information and communication technologies) in the world. Sixty four percent of the 1,300 exhibitors (2002: 1,600 exhibitors) gave the fair a 'great' or 'good' mark. That was 13 percentage points better than 2002's result.

Earning particular praise from the exhibitors were the fair's outreach to the fast-growing market in central and eastern Europe for ICT systems and services and its focuses on the SME (small and medium-sized enterprises) sector. Also winning kudos: the mobile communication technologies on display at the fair, and the quality of persons attending SYSTEMS.

According to NFO Infratest, the independent market researchers, 97% of the fair's visitors were trade professionals. Of them, nearly all hold positions of responsibility in their companies and organizations.

Helping power SYSTEMS' comeback: the perception that its industry has embarked upon an upswing. This perception is subscribed to by no less than two third of the fair's exhibitors.
