(November 21, 2003) 500,000 shoppers in its first five days. That’s
the scorecard on Riem Arcades. Located in Munich’s Messestadt
Riem district, the mall opened on March 10th.
That day promises to go down in German retailing history. On March
10th, the mall was visited by no less than 125,00 shoppers. Their
total expenditures came to €5 million.
“Shoppers are flocking in numbers far exceeding our expectations.
Their spending has also been far above our forecasts,” notes
Jochen Czub, the mall’s manager-in-chief.
This influx has led the mall’s management to declare the
next two Sundays (March 21 and 28th) to be “come and see
days”. On these days, shoppers can stroll through the mall
and enjoy its cafés and restaurants.
