(October 14, 2002) Interest
in renting premises in Riem Arcades is running strong. Some 80%
of the floor space in the mall, to be Munich's second largest upon
its completion in spring 2004, has already been rented out or spoken
for, reports Jochen Czub, the Arcades' manager.
'Anchor' tenants include Peek & Cloppenburg, Hennes & Mauritz,
Christ jewelers, Esprit and many other leading names. All told,
the mall will have 30,000 square meters of retailing space, with
another 17,000 square meters available for outside displays.
Along with a multiplex cinema, restaurants and cafés, a
disco and leisure-time and municipal centers, the mall will also
be home to a six-story, three-star-plus Dorint hotel. It will have
278 rooms.
Motivating these companies to set up shop in Riem Arcades is the
size of the market to be tapped. Some 400,000 persons live on Munich's
east side-and five times as many in the metropolitan area. Add to
these two million potential customers another two and a half million.
That's the total annual attendance at the events staged at Munich's
fairgrounds and ICM congress center.
Both facilities are located across the street from Riem Arcades.
