(January 12, 2004) Munich is the leading business region in Germany.
That's the conclusion of an authoritative, exhaustive study conducted
by Germany's national chamber of commerce of the country's eight
leading regions.
Confirming the findings of its predecessors, the study awarded
the top spot to Munich. In maintaining its number one ranking, the
region finished first in 13 of the study's 44 categories. Munich
also notched 13 second places. Among the first places: the strongest
long-term growth, the greatest purchasing power, the highest per
capita productivity and GDP, and the highest rates of employment
and of persons holding advanced degrees of any region in Germany.
Two other top finishes: The city is number one for tourism, having
recorded the highest rate of overnight stays per hundred residents.
Munich is also Germany's export champ. Some 54% of the products
manufactured in the city are sold abroad.
