Another high-profile building to be constructed in Messestadt Riem:
“Haus der Gegenwart”

(February 2, 2004) Now going up in Messestadt Riem is the “Building Showing the Way”. To be located on the site shared with 2005’s National Garden Show, this structure, as its name indicates, is to show the world what architecture is capable of and where it should be heading.

The building’s architects are the Munich-based Allmann, Sattler, Wappner. To secure the commission, the firm had to beat out 33 other world-leaders in winning a dedicated competition held in 2001.

To be completed by spring, 2005, the building will have two stories, and will serve as a venue for public meetings and exhibitions on architecture, design and urban planning. As befitting its location in the midst of Europe’s leading horticultural show, the building will be environmentally-friendly and energy efficient. Part of this efficiency will come from ICT (information and communications) infrastructure being installed by Microsoft. The infrastructure will control and monitor in-house operations, and give the structure state-of-technology communications and media systems.
