(July 20, 2005) 82 days down, 83 to go. BUGA, Germany's National
Garden Festival, is half over. Being held in Munich's Messestadt
Riem district, the event has already attracted 1.35 million visitors
and earned €10 million from ticket sales.
As Munich's mayor Christian Ude reported, the first figure is below
expectations; the second, above the 50% mark for total revenues.
To break event, BUGA needs to take in €18 million.
For BUGA 2005, the best and the most are yet to come, comments the
mayor. The reasons for his optimism: August and early September
are Bavaria's peak tourism months. School kids are on summer vacation,
leaving parents scrambling to find attractive, nature-oriented things
to do. BUGA has a variety of special attractions for families, with
these including the on-site lake.
