Best in 50 years, biggest trade fair of all time: 2004’s bauma + mining

(April 4, 2004) This year’s bauma + mining has broken all of the records set during the trade fair’s 50 years of existence.

At 2,801, the number of exhibitors was up 20% over 2001’s all-time best. The exhibitors’ stands and outdoor displays occupied 495,000 square meters. An increase of 10% over 2001, this total makes bauma the largest trade fair in the world.

Setting a new all-time best was also the visitors total, which came to 410,000 (2001: 406,000). These visitors were from 171 countries (2001: 157). Powering this rise was a 27% increase in visitors from central and eastern Europe, central Asia and other areas. These visitors had something important in common—79% of the visitors are decision-makers.

These records are attributable to the trade fair’s attractiveness and to the strength of the world’s construction industry.

“Over the last 50 years, bauma has established itself as the venue for the construction industry,” states Manfred Wutzlhofer, chairman of the board of management of Messe München GmbH.

“Especially gratifying is the large number of exhibitors securing new orders at the trade fair. And these orders were of an unexpectedly large size,” reports Dr. Reinhold Festge, chairman of Germany’s construction machine and materials association.

In view of these records, it’s not surprising that the trade fair wracked up a new best for exhibitor satisfaction—93%. Coming in for especial praise were the fair’s internationality and importance.

The next edition of the fair will take place from April 23 – 29, 2007 in Munich.
