Analytica 2004: new records

(May 14, 2004) It was the best Analytica of all time. Held from May 11 – 14 2004, at Munich’s trade fair center, the event attracted 1,120 exhibitors. Up 5% from 2002’s 1040—also a record for the trade fair—this number joined with the all-time high share of non-German companies (one third!) attending in reiterating Analytica’s position of being the premiere event for analytic and analysis-based devices, systems and services.

That Analytica is the leading event in the world in its sector was also endorsed by 85% (2002: 81%) of the fair’s visitors, who numbered 30,000 (2002: 34,000). According to 91% (2002: 85%) of the persons polled, the fair is the place to do business with the most important companies in their fields.

Also detailing the fair’s standing was the strong attendance by renowned scientists and entrepreneurs of the accompanying Analytica Conference and its more than one hundred lectures and presentations. The Conference established itself as a main-stage showcase for innovations and implementations in the field of analytic technologies and biological studies.

Also showing the event’s pull is the large number—250—of first-time exhibitors. Among them are some of the most famous corporations in Germany—including software giant SAP, Bayer Industry Services and Akzo Nobel—and abroad. “We were especially pleased by SAP’s participation. It shows what good customers for SAP’s products the life sciences and chemical sectors have become,” stated Klaus Dittrich, managing director Messe München International.

Also prominent among the newcomers were such leading biotechs as IMG, Biozym Diagnostik, Chemogenix, GenPharmTox Biotech and euroderm, and such important centers of research as the universities of Potsdam and Bonn, and the Caesar Institute.

Analytica’s success stems from its policy of creating features needed and wanted by the analytics industry, Dittrich states. He cites by way of an example the Analytica Forum, which serves as a platform for the transfer of technologies among industry professionals. Also mentioned were the Job Day, which brought together employers and their potential employees, and the International Partnering Conference, at which Europe’s high-tech regions got to pitch their areas and forge interregional alliances.
