(February 12, 2003) Some 90% of the space in Riem Arcades has already
been rented out, reports Jochen Czub, the manager of the mall. Set
for completion in precisely one year, the mall, located in Munich's
Messestadt Riem borough, will be one of the largest in southern
Germany.
"We expect the remaining 10% to be taken up over the next
few months," adds Czub, who attributes the strong demand for
space to the draw of the location. "Messestadt Riem is a great
place in which to be located. That fact hasn't escaped the attention
of retailers situated in both the mass market and premium segments,"
says Czub.
He notes: "Among our new tenants are Zara, Benetton, Pimkie,
Orsay, s. Oliver, Hugendubel, WMF and Saniplus. They join C &
A, K + L Ruppert, H & M, Ludwig Beck, Tommy Hilfiger, Gerry
Weber, Esprit, Douglas, Betten Rid and Christ Jewellers."
The Arcades: rising fast
Now available for viewing is a simulation of the mall's interior.
The simulation shows the Arcades to be a place with plenty of light-thanks
to its arc of a glass roof - and of space for strolling and stopping.
The stores show the variety of fronts and shapes characteristic
of Europe's High Streets. "And that's precisely what we wanted
to create: a place which our shoppers find enlivening and interesting,
a place where they feel at home," states Czub.
Construction on the mall is proceeding at a rapid pace. Already
completed are the skeletons of the mall's ground and first floors,
and much of the office complex and the hotel. The outfitting of
the store interiors will start in November.
One of the largest construction projects in Munich, the mall will
open its doors at the beginning of 2004. Located in the heart of
Messestadt Riem, the € 450 million project is being developed
by DIFA and mifi. Riem Arcades' 119,000 square meters of usable
floor space will be occupied by some 160 stores, plus leisure-time
facilities, restaurants, cafés, a disco, a multiplex cinema,
a 260-bed hotel, 60 apartment units, a community center, an office
complex providing 20,000 meters of space, and some 2,600 parking
spaces.
